After his illustrious career in basketball, the former Miami Heat superstar, Ray Allen appears to be taking headed in a whole new direction with his new venture. Allen will be opening Grown, an organic fast-food restaurant in March of this year in South Miami at 8211 South-Dixie Highway.
The two-time N.B.A champion & actor was inspired by the turbulence he and his endured trying to get the correct nutrient-rich food to supplement their 9 year-old son who battled with Type 1 diabetes.
Allen and his wife, Shannon, collaborated with executive chef Todd Kiley of the Rainforest Café to create the menu. Some things you expect to indulge in at Grown are soups, salads, sandwiches and wraps, gluten-free baked goods, cold-pressed juices, fruit smoothies and coffee. The cost of the items will range from $4 to $18. Grown is also set to offer a drive-thru window as well as carryout targeting on-the-go customers.
Allen admits that after having taken them a whopping six years to conceptualize the idea, there cannot be a better time to set the wheels in motion. He has given the restaurant the slogan “real food cooked slow for fast people’’, just to give a glimpse of how passionately he feels about organic food. As we wait for Grown to be opened to the public, we can also wait and see how Allen manages the media attention that will inevitably characterize his new-found spotlight.
